It’s not every day that a retired guide dog turns 15, so here at Golden Opportunity Assistance Dogs we’re taking the opportunity to PAW-TY! Will YOU join us to make Able’s day EXTRA SPECIAL? Below you’ll find a few photos from his scrapbook to give you a glimpse into his life from growing up in London to working in Winterpeg and Kenora to retiring back in London. He’s old enough (we won’t say “old”) that some of his photos were actually Polaroid, if you can believe it, so we couldn’t post those. He’s come full circle and like the energizer bunny, he’s still ticking and marching to his own drum and we’re THRILLED. If you keep scrolling, you’ll also find a BIRTHDAY CARD that we hope to fill up with the names of ALL his friends, past, present and future. |

2005 MORE training in Kenora and Winterpeg with Renee...she needed a LOT of training...geesh! Kidding!!! |

Guess where this logo came from....YEP...It’s ME...ABLE! |
Able had a very long career as a guide dog for Renee and he walked literally millions of steps in his lifetime guiding his best friend safely around many obstacles. Now it’s OUR turn to guide him safely around some of his. In order to keep him mobile and able to enjoy his retirement, he requires different treatments each week (chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture and laser treatments, underwater treadmill and physiotherapy sessions. It’s been amazing to watch how these alternative interventions have increased Able’s comfort and mobility. Most days he is able to get up un-aided off his bed and he even almost runs behind our volunteers when they have cookies in their hands. He may be half deaf and can’t see well (and might benefit from a guide dog of his own) but his nose sure works and he has the heart of a lion and the personality of a rock star and his legs WERE made for walking! Will you help to keep him walking with a special donation for his birthday? Here’s how you can put your name on the card: If you make an online donation on his birthday page here, we’ll jump onto his page and add your name to his card. If you want to send him a greeting, you can add that in the notes on your donation or visit our facebook page after you donate and add a short memory of Able there. We KNOW he’s touched a lot of lives working with Renee as her “right hand man” for over a decade and one of those lives just might be YOURS! Here are some ideas for birthday donation amounts in case you can’t decide what to give a guide dog who’s turning 15... #1 - $15.00 (that was easy!) |
